Rotraud Berges-Lahme: A Learning Paradigm Shift Requires Educational Reform

Responding to the paradigm shift in learning, the PIAUD Study Program held a collaborative education seminar on Wednesday (27/2) in the Theatrical Room of the UIN Sunan Kalijaga Library and attended by no less than 150 students and lecturers. This activity was held collaboratively with the PIAUD Masters Study Program at UIN Sunan Kalijaga and the STAI Al Hikmah Tuban PIAUD Study Program. This seminar presented a resource person, Rotraud Berges-Lahme, Senior Expert Service (SES) in Germany.

In his presentation entitled Pedagogy Reformation in Early Childhood Education: How Kindergarten Works in Germany, Prof. Lahme stresses the importance of educational reform today, during the paradigm shift that occurred in the last years of the 20th century, from 'teacher centred' teaching to 'child oriented', he stated that the essential feature of all the concepts discussed here it is 'orientation towards the child,' a term which in particular signifies rethinking in a historical sense: it is not the school and its demands that are at the centre of pedagogical thought, but the optimal development of the child, and the school that enables this development to take place properly.
